EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) is a unique identification number assigned to economic operators and other persons involved in customs activities within the European Union. Since Croatia joined the EU, all BiH companies trading with the EU must obtain an EORI number.
Since July 1, 2013 (Croatia's EU accession), all companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina that perform customs procedures at the EU external border are required to have a valid EORI number. Without it, goods cannot clear EU customs.
Your EORI number is typically assigned by the EU country where you first conduct customs operations. For BiH companies, this is most commonly Croatia, Slovenia, or Hungary.
You will need: company registration certificate (extract from court register), tax identification number, proof of business activity, and a completed EORI application form.
Applications are submitted to the customs authority of the relevant EU member state. Processing typically takes 5-10 business days.
Once approved, your EORI number is valid across all EU member states. It follows the format: country code + up to 15 characters (e.g., HR12345678901 for Croatia).
You can verify any EORI number through the European Commission's official EORI validation system. This is useful for confirming the validity of a trading partner's EORI before initiating customs procedures.
